A nonprofit on a single mission: take the toxic out of fire defense.

We defend wildlife habitats, equine properties, and irreplaceable historical landmarks — using the only EPA Safer Choice–certified fire retardant in the world.

For decades, the chemicals used to slow wildfires have done their job at a cost: cancer-linked compounds in the homes they save, the soils they soak, and the lungs of the firefighters who spray them.

Safer Chemistry exists because the things wildfire takes — animals that can't run, landmarks that can't be rebuilt — shouldn't have to be lost just because the chemistry to protect them is itself unsafe. We're a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded by Steve Conboy — the inventor of the world's only EPA Safer Choice–certified fire retardant.

We channel every dollar into three places:

  • Defending wildlife habitats — wolves, raptors, and sanctuary animals that can't evacuate.
  • Hardening equine properties — barns, paddocks, and the perimeters around them.
  • Protecting historical landmarks — missions, adobes, and irreplaceable structures that wildfire would erase forever.

None of this works without donors. We don't take public money, we don't sell anything, and we don't get rich doing it. We do this because the animals and landmarks in wildfire's path deserve a chemistry that doesn't cost them more than the fire would.

Steve Conboy, founder of Safer Chemistry Limited, is a nationally recognized American innovation influencer whose mission is to make homes, communities, and animals safer from wildfire threats. Through his leadership, Safer Chemistry Limited has become a trusted nonprofit educational platform dedicated to advancing proactive wildfire risk reduction practices.

Steve is the inventor of a breakthrough fire-retardant chemistry that is now certified by the EPA Safer Choice Program — a distinction no other fire-retardant product in the world has achieved to date. His work in wildfire defense has earned national recognition, including being selected for inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who for his early achievements in fire-elimination technologies and community-protection systems.

Steve’s dedication is deeply personal. After losing his father to toxic chemicals he had been told were “safe” during his service in the Navy, Steve committed his life to creating safer, non-toxic solutions that protect both people and the environment.
